DESCRIPTION:
France, figural mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a cast metal case mounted on a white marble base with cast gilt feet and applied ornaments, the clock with white enamel dial, polychrome garlands, and Louis XV style hands, all adjacent to the figure of a seated woman reading a book.
CONDITION:
The white marble case is in very good condition. Some of the original gilding on ornaments and clock portion is intact. Much of the figure has been touched up with gold paint, but it looks good. Dial, convex beveled glass, and hands are all very good. Back of the case is stamped "Covington, New York" and has an applied medallion indicating that it was a product of France. The unsigned movement has rack strike that sounds on a bell.
